Wedza – Zimbabwe’s music lovers are in for an electrifying night on Tuesday as Kujeka Grounds in Wedza, Mashonaland East Province, transforms into a stage of rhythm, colour, and patriotism for the 2025 Heroes and Defence Forces Gala.

The annual gala, a major highlight on the country’s cultural calendar, will once again bring the nation together in celebration of its history, identity, and resilience.

Set against the rolling hills and open skies of Wedza, this year’s edition promises a vibrant fusion of top-tier entertainment and heartfelt national pride.

A Celebration of Heroes Through Music

The gala forms part of the commemorations of Heroes Day and Defence Forces Day, two significant national holidays dedicated to honouring Zimbabwe’s gallant sons and daughters who fought for independence and continue to defend its sovereignty.

Traditionally, the event is a travelling spectacle, hosted in different provinces each year, ensuring that communities across Zimbabwe experience the festivities up close.

For Wedza, the honour of hosting has sparked excitement, with preparations already in full swing.

Local businesses, food vendors, and transport operators are gearing up for the influx of visitors expected to flood the growth point.

A Star-Studded Line-Up

This year’s musical menu features a blend of household names, fresh talent, and beloved provincial stars.

Fans can expect performances from some of Zimbabwe’s finest across genres: Andy Muridzo – bringing his distinctive Afro-fusion sound.

Mark Ngwazi – the Sungura hitmaker whose stage energy keeps fans on their feet.

Chief Hwenje – known for his patriotic hits that resonate deeply during national events.

Mathias Mhere – delivering soulful gospel melodies.

Shantel Sithole and Jah Master – representing the new wave of Zimdancehall and contemporary sounds.

Mechanic Manyeruke – a gospel legend whose career spans decades.

Adding to the musical fireworks are Enzo Ishall, Tendai Dembo, Sasha Madhuve, Mr Gray, Mainato, and the ZPCS Band.

Local Talent Takes the Spotlight

True to the gala’s mission of showcasing provincial talent, Mashonaland East will be well represented.

Jungle Fox, Josphat Somanje, Kadiki and Van Chichi, DelRoy, and Mutokwe and Sons will bring their homegrown flavour to the stage.

Their presence ensures that the celebration is not only about national unity but also about lifting local voices to national prominence.

A Night of Song, Dance, and Togetherness

With gates opening early, organisers are encouraging the public to come in their numbers, dressed in national colours and ready to celebrate.

Food stalls, traditional craft stands, and community exhibitions will add to the carnival atmosphere.

Beyond the music, the gala remains a deeply symbolic event – a reminder of the country’s journey, the sacrifices made, and the unity that binds its people.

The blend of modern beats, traditional rhythms, and gospel harmonies mirrors Zimbabwe’s diverse cultural fabric.

As the sun sets over Kujeka Grounds and the first chords strike, Wedza will become the heartbeat of the nation, pulsing with song, dance, and the enduring spirit of Zimbabwe.
