In a major milestone for the people of Shurugwi, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Honourable Joshua Setipa Sacco, commissioned the completion of a 12-kilometer stretch of the Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe road. The event, held yesterday, marks a significant achievement in the Second Republic’s quest to modernize Zimbabwe’s roads and infrastructure.

The 43-kilometer road, being constructed by Road Trackers Construction Private Limited, has reached the 22-kilometer mark, with the latest commissioning stretching from Gamwa turn-off to Musavezi bridge. This development is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the country’s infrastructure, a cornerstone of President Emerson Mnangagwa’s vision for a modernized Zimbabwe.

Attending the event were notable figures, including the legislator for Shurugwi South, Engineer Wilson Mhuri, Village Head Sabhuku Temba Mliswa, and Tongogara Rural District Council Chairman, Councillor Wilbert Rambanapasi. Their presence underscores the collaborative effort driving development in Shurugwi.

Since coming into power, President Mnangagwa has overseen a transformation in Zimbabwe’s infrastructure development, with notable achievements in road construction. His leadership has drawn comparisons to Deng Xiaoping, the former Chinese leader who oversaw China’s economic transformation. Like Deng, President Mnangagwa has prioritized economic development and infrastructure growth, changing the face of Zimbabwe in a short space of time.

Under President Mnangagwa’s leadership, Zimbabwe has witnessed a surge in road construction and infrastructure development, with numerous projects completed or underway across the country. This focus on development has earned him the nickname “The Deng of Zimbabwe,” reflecting his commitment to transforming the nation’s economy and infrastructure.

In his remarks, Deputy Minister Sacco highlighted that it is the delight of his ministry and his principal, the President of Zimbabwe, to continue delivering such essential services as the nation marches towards the attainment of Vision 2030. He emphasized that the goal of achieving an upper-middle-income economy by 2030 requires ease of travel and access to markets, making road infrastructure development a critical component.

Deputy Minister Sacco also urged motorists to exercise caution and observe all safety and road regulations to reduce accidents and save lives. He stressed that the government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure will be undermined if road users do not take responsibility for their safety and the safety of others.

This project is a shining example of the Second Republic’s pro-development stance, demonstrating a clear focus on upgrading infrastructure to stimulate economic growth and improve lives. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, led by Honourable Felix Mhona, is at the forefront of this initiative, working tirelessly to transform Zimbabwe’s roads and transport networks.

The completion of this road stretch brings relief and excitement to the people of Shurugwi, who will benefit from improved connectivity, reduced travel times, and enhanced access to markets and services. As the project progresses, it is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, creating opportunities for trade, investment, and job creation.

The commissioning of the Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe road is a celebration of progress, a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to development, and a beacon of hope for a brighter future in Zimbabwe.
