By Edward Makuzva Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Dr.Tamer Almassri has issued a stark warning over fresh evacuation orders by Israeli authorities, saying they target hundreds of thousands of civilians in northern Gaza and Gaza City and force them once again toward Khan Younis, an area already devastated by attacks on makeshift shelters and refugee camps. According to Ambassador Almassri, these directives issued under the pretext of preparing for large-scale military operations mark a dangerous escalation of what he describes as Israel’s systematic policy of forced displacement. He argues the measures are designed to depopulate northern Gaza, consolidate military and settler control, and confine the Palestinian population to a narrow strip in the south, effectively transforming it into “the world’s largest open-air detention camp.” “What Israel is doing today mirrors, in disturbing fashion, the very same fascist tactics employed by the Nazi regime: besieging civilian populations, denying them food, water, and medicine, targeting shelters and hospitals, and using terror as a tool of control and domination. It is a grotesque irony and moral tragedy that the state which claims to speak in the name of Holocaust victims is now perpetrating, with shocking impunity, similar atrocities against another indigenous people”, Ambassador Almassri explained. The ambassador likened the situation to some of the darkest chapters of modern history, referencing ethnic cleansing in the Balkans, the atrocities committed against the Rohingya, and even the Nazi ghettos of the 1930s and 1940s, where communities were forcibly crowded into squalid conditions before facing mass extermination. Dr Almassri further accused Israel of employing tactics reminiscent of fascist regimes — including besieging civilian populations, denying access to food and medicine, striking shelters and hospitals, and using fear as a weapon of control. The Palestinian ambassador added that it was a “grotesque irony” that a state founded in the wake of the Holocaust is now “perpetrating similar atrocities against another indigenous people.” Ambassador Almassri warned that global inaction amounts to complicity, calling it a betrayal of the principles enshrined in international law, from the Nuremberg trials to the Geneva Conventions. He urged governments, human rights institutions, and civil society to take immediate, concrete measures to halt what he called “the criminal policies of Israel’s far-right leadership.” Despite the suffering, Dr Almassri emphasized that Palestinians remain steadfast and will not abandon their land, vowing to continue their struggle for freedom and dignity through means permitted under international law until the occupation ends and their rights are restored. “History will not forgive the bystanders. Justice will not be denied,” he concluded.
