The Citizens Coalition for Change (‘CCC’) party denies supporting the idea by the ruling party ZANU PF to defer the harmonised elections to 2030.

Following the allegations that Senator Sengezo Tshabangu has been supporting election postponement, Chief of Staff Nqobizitha Mlilo said their party has not made any consideration or deliberation regarding the postponement of the 2028 elections In a statement, Mlilo said the 2030 agenda is a matter internal to Zanu PF.

“In light of this, the views expressed by our Chief Whip, Honourable Charles Moyo, are his and his alone and should not have been made, or construed to have been made, on behalf of the party. Neither has the party considered the so-called 2030 agenda.

“The matter will be considered when properly tabled in the party as a discussion issue. Thus far, it has not.”

“The views are bona fide held. It’s a genuine opinion held by a member of the party. There are no consequences for thinking and making contributions on important party and or national matters. We should be open to hearing different views on difficult matters
The matter will be considered when properly tabled in the party as a discussion issue,” he added.

Recently it was reported in the media that the country’s main opposition party, CCC, is in agreement with the resolution by the ruling Zanu PF party to postpone the next harmonised elections from 2028 to 2030 to allow developmental projects initiated by President Mnangagwa and the second Republic to come to fruition.

It was alleged that the CCC, chief whip Mr Charles Moyo said that the main opposition party supports the resolution saying the deferment of elections to 2030 would also allow smooth implementation of National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) that is being formulated and is expected to be launched in November this year.
