HARARE — Former Warriors midfielder and Dynamos Midfielder Denver “Mundikumbuke” Mukamba proved he still has a special place in the hearts of local football fans after he was mobbed and showered with cash by supporters following his dazzling performance last Sunday.

The veteran midfielder, who now plies his trade with Super League side Dynamos FC, turned back the hands of time with a vintage display that helped his side secure a vital win in a tense encounter at Rufaro Stadium after beating Norton-based side MWOS FC one-nil.

As the final whistle blew, jubilant fans surged toward Mukamba, waving bond notes and US dollars as a token of appreciation for his creativity, leadership, and skill on the field.

Videos circulating on social media show the 31-year-old being swamped by supporters, some hugging him while others slipped folded bills into his hands, shirt, and socks.

“It feels good to be appreciated,” Mukamba said in a brief interview after the match. “The fans have always been part of my journey, through the ups and downs. I play for them, and I’m grateful for their love.”

Mukamba rolled back the years with a commanding midfield performance — threading passes, taking on defenders with flair, and even assisting the winning goal.

It was a reminder of the talent that once earned him a move to South African giants Bidvest Wits and a place in the national team.

Fans at the stadium chanted his name throughout the match.

One supporter, Tinashe Chikore, said: “He’s a legend. He has his flaws like any human being, but when it comes to football, Denver is classy. He gave everything today. That’s why we gave him something back.”

Mukamba has had a career full of highs and lows — from dazzling at Dynamos and making the Warriors squad, to battling disciplinary issues and brief stints with various clubs.

But Sunday’s match seemed to signal a renewed focus and passion from the midfield maestro.

The heartwarming gesture from the fans not only celebrated Mukamba’s skill but also highlighted how football remains a powerful unifier and a source of hope in Zimbabwe’s sporting culture.

With more performances like Sunday’s, Denver Mukamba may just be writing a powerful new chapter in his football journey — one where redemption, passion, and community support define his legacy.
