By Ilyana Sithole Fifty-three-year-old Dexter Taona Nduna, a former Chegutu West legislator, has been denied bail by the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court in fraud charges against him. He was alleged to have misrepresented himself as an official, who was mandated to collect parking fees on behalf of the Municipality of Chegutu.According to reports, Nduna allegedly approached two motorists earlier this month, claiming to act on behalf of the municipality. His actions seemed suspicious, leading to one of the motorists filing a police report. After investigation, Nduna was arrested and charged with fraud.The court appearance for Nduna has been scheduled for the 29th of October 2024, where further proceedings will take place. The case has attracted the interest of the public, who raise concerns about fraudulent acts that have continued to take place in the country.Details of the case reveal that Nduna claimed a company linked to him, Team Chapter, was responsible for the collection of vehicle parking fees in Chegutu. This, however, has not been proven, and the court has remanded him in custody pending further investigation.Nduna, a member of the ZANU PF Central Committee, has in the past found himself in the eye of a storm. His latest perceived run-in with the law has thus intrigued many since he is one of the top-ranking party members.As the legal proceedings unfold, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe continues to emphasize its commitment to combating fraud and protecting the interests of citizens.
