A Midlands man, Life Rangwani, has been convicted of murder following a gruesome incident in which he killed his nephew over a burnt garden.

The incident occurred on November 24, 2020, when a dispute erupted between Rangwani and his nephew. The altercation escalated after Rangwani allegedly set fire to his nephew’s garden. In retaliation, the nephew struck Rangwani on the head with a stone using a catapult.

However, the incident didn’t end there. Rangwani later returned to the scene armed with an axe and a machete, accompanied by an accomplice who remains at large. A confrontation ensued, leading to the nephew’s tragic demise. Rangwani caught up with the victim and struck him once on the head with the axe, causing fatal injuries.

The accused was subsequently arrested following a police report and has now been found guilty of murder. He will appear in court tomorrow for sentencing.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has urged members of the public to refrain from violence and seek peaceful resolutions to disputes. The authority emphasized the importance of amicable solutions or third-party mediation as alternatives to resorting to violence.
