Recently, a devastating incident shook the Ushewekunze community in Harare, leaving a family in irreparable grief and a father experiencing his worst nightmare after he accidentally ran over and killed his son.The death of a child of any age is a profound, difficult, and painful experience. While bereavement is stressful the greatest stress, and often the most enduring one, occurs for parents who experience the death of a child from their own hands. Individuals and families have many capabilities and abilities that allow them to respond to interpersonal loss and to emerge from the experience changed but not broken. The loss of a child is followed by a more intense grief than the death of a spouse or a parent.Family bereavement may be adversely affected by the inability to reduce suffering during the child’s dying process.On October 18, 2024, a fatal road accident occurred near Landa Shops in Ushewekunze. A Toyota Coaster minibus with registration number ABS 2996 was involved in the incident, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old male. Tragically, the victim’s father was operating the vehicle at the time.How The Fatal Accident UnfoldedAccording to reports, the vehicle experienced mechanical issues while on the road. The young man attempted to resolve the problem by going underneath the vehicle while the engine was still running. Unfortunately, the Toyota Coaster suddenly moved forward, crushing the teenager’s head.Efforts were made to rush the victim to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries en route. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating the incident, working to gather more information on the mechanical fault that caused the vehicle to move unexpectedly.This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of exercising extreme caution when dealing with vehicle repairs, especially when the engine is running. Authorities urge drivers and the public to prioritize safety to avoid similar tragedies.The community mourns the loss of a young life and offers condolences to the grieving family.
