By Ilyana Sithole In a significant step towards regional collaboration in waste management, Geo Pomona Waste Management is exploring opportunities for expansion in Botswana. The executive team, led by Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Engineer Amos Marawa, yesterday visited key government ministries to discuss potential partnerships and share their innovative waste management technologies.During a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Dilesh Nguwaya Executive Chairman and C.E.O of Geo Pomona and Engineer Amos Marawa met with Botswana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Lemogang Kwape. Dr. Kwape expressed his ministry’s commitment to fostering collaboration with Zimbabwe, emphasizing the importance of Geo Pomona’s cutting-edge technologies in waste management and recycling. “We are keen to explore opportunities for joint investments, not only in infrastructure but also in skills and technologies relevant to waste management,” Dr. Kwape stated. His remarks underscore Botswana’s intent to enhance its waste management capabilities, particularly as the nation grapples with increasing waste challenges. Since waste management falls under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Geo Pomona delegation also engaged with Permanent Secretary Gaba Gabriella Mogapi. Mogapi highlighted the potential for learning from Geo Pomona’s established practices, particularly in managing the Pilane Landfill, which has exceeded its operational lifespan by 14 years. “We hope to close the skills gap and gain valuable insights from the Zimbabwean delegation to improve our management strategies,” she noted. Following their discussions, both teams visited the Pilane Landfill to address pressing issues firsthand. Engineer Marawa emphasized the lasting impact of Geo Pomona’s technologies in the region, noting that they were invited by President Mokgweetsi Masisi for a fact-finding mission aimed at identifying collaborative solutions to local waste management challenges. “By the end of our tour, we aim to ensure that our Botswana counterparts gain essential knowledge from our experiences and outline a collaborative path forward,” Marawa said. “Geo Pomona is committed to sharing its technologies, expertise, and capacity-building initiatives.” As Geo Pomona expands into Botswana, its expertise offers a transformative solution to the region’s waste management challenges. By sharing technologies, expertise, and capacity-building initiatives, both nations can create a more sustainable future, benefiting from enhanced waste management practices and strengthened regional cooperation.
