Gokwe Gears up for 45th Independence Celebrations

GOKWE NORTH – The sprawling Nembudziya Growth Point in Gokwe North is abuzz with activity as preparation goes into high gear for the 45th Anniversary of Independence celebrations to be held on April 18th, 2025. The historic occasion, rotated among the nation’s provinces in keeping with the Second Republic’s dictate, will be preceded by the much-awaited Children’s Party on April 17th at Nyamuroro High School.

Honourable Daniel Garwe, Minister of Public Works and Local Government, being Acting Cabinet Committee Chairman on National Monuments and State Occasions, made detailed reports on preparations. The activities, with a theme “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together towards Vision 2030,” are anticipated to attract an audience of 60,000 people from all the ten provinces in Zimbabwe.

Grand Preparations Underway
Preparatory work for the Nembudziya Growth Point Open Ground grounds is ongoing, and legacy events are underway in full swing. Venue for Nyamuroro High School Children’s Party and Independence Gala venue for Nembudziya Government High School are also being well prepared.

The government has also put the delivery of basic services at the top, and among these, clean and safe drinking water. 110 boreholes have been drilled in Gokwe North and South districts, out of which three are at the venue locations, to ensure a proper supply of water.

Children’s Party and Cultural Extravaganza
Children’s Party, to be a showcase of the parties, will consist of 3,050 child delegates who will be hosted by the First Family at Nyamuroro High School. The delegates will be arriving on April 15th and leaving on April 19th with a very hectic schedule of activities.
Entertainment will be part of the attractions of the celebrations. Herentals Queens and Black Rhinos Football Clubs will be performing at the Children’s Party. Kwekwe, Gokwe, and other district teams will also be on stage, a reflection of the rich cultural heritage of the country.

Sports and Entertainment Galore
The cream of the Independence Day Anniversary festivities will be a thrilling soccer encounter between Premier League giants FC Platinum and Simba Bhora. The Independence Gala, held at Nembudziya Government High School on the evening of April 18th, will be an evening of dynamic music and dancing.

Logistics and Transportation
In order to provide for equal access to the celebrations, the government has dispatched more than 369 buses for the delegates’ transportation from all over the country. Torch Relay in traditional form and Independence Flame lighting will be held throughout the provinces, representing national unity and independence spirit.

A Celebration of Unity and Progress
The forthcoming celebrations in Gokwe North will be a milestone celebration marking the development and integration of the country. With all arrangements well set, the event will be a memorable experience in commemorating the country’s transformation to Vision 2030.
