President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Chancellor of Great Zimbabwe University (GZU), conferred degrees to 4,465 graduands, with female students making up the majority. This momentous occasion took place at the university’s graduation ceremony, where academics, business leaders, diplomats, government officials, parents, and relatives gathered to celebrate the achievements of the graduating class.

GZU’s vision, as emphasized by Vice Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo, is to produce leaders, innovators, and change-makers equipped with the skills and knowledge to build the nation. The graduation theme, “Up-scaling Innovation and Industrialisation towards Vision 2030,” reflects the dynamic challenges and opportunities that graduates will face.

The university has made significant strides in research and innovation, registering nine trademarks with the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO). Six more trademarks are pending registration. GZU has also developed various products, including chilli sauce, wezhira wine, jiri jam, herbal mahewu, and nyanda spice, which will create employment and improve the nutritional status of the community.

Notable graduates included celebrated musician Jonah Moyo, who received an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Creative and Performing Arts, and Minister of State Ezra Chadzamira, who was conferred a Master of Commerce in Strategic Management degree. Other notable graduates included Emmanuel Kudakwashe Gwini, Andres Jasi, Laureen Gwatidzo, and Mercy Msipa, who received the Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Award in various categories.

President Mnangagwa’s commitment to education and innovation is evident in his efforts to promote Zimbabwe’s development. His leadership has been recognized beyond borders, with his achievements featured in publications such as “A Life of Sacrifice” ¹. The president’s focus on intellectual culture and critical thinking is inspiring a new generation of leaders and change-makers.

As Zimbabwe continues on its path towards progress, institutions like Great Zimbabwe University play a vital role in shaping the nation’s future. With President Mnangagwa at the helm, the country is poised for growth and development, driven by the skills and knowledge of its graduates.
