By Staff Reporter A chilling home invasion in the affluent Highmount suburb has left a local businessman and his son traumatized after being held hostage and robbed at knifepoint. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 am on February 22, 2025, at the residence of Mr. Sibanda.According to sources, Mr. Sibanda and his son were awakened by noises within their home. They were then confronted by an unknown number of assailants who proceeded to assault them, slapping them repeatedly while brandishing knives. The perpetrators then ransacked the house, making off with $390 USD in cash and six mobile phones.The Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are leading the investigation, and canine units have been deployed to assist in tracking the suspects. The search is currently focused on the Ngozi Mine area, where informal settlements are located. Investigators are also exploring leads in the Richmond area. Police are exploring all avenues that will lead to the perpetrators.This brazen attack has sent shockwaves through the High Mount community, raising concerns about security in the area. In a related development, ZRP Chegutu made a significant arrest on February 21, when Tichaona Dube, 34, was apprehended at Lambourne Farm. Dube was found in possession of copper cables that he could not account for. He was reportedly observed by farm security guards burning the cables near the Harare-Bulawayo Road around 3:00 AM.Dube, who was with an accomplice identified only as Isaya Tembo, was charged with theft. Police recovered two 10-meter lengths of ZESA armored copper cables and three pieces of folded copper geyser pipes during the arrest.The community remains on high alert as investigation continue. Residents are hoping for swift justice and the safe apprehension of those responsible.
