Harare – Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has approved a new ICT for Disaster Risk Management (ICT4DRM) initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s response to natural disasters like floods, droughts, and disease outbreaks.

During a post-Cabinet briefing on Tuesday, Information Minister Jenfan Muswere said the initiative will enhance preparedness and recovery efforts through rapid communication and real-time data analysis. “This is a major step in improving disaster management, especially following disasters such as Cyclone Idai and the El Niño-induced drought,” Muswere stated.

The initiative will incorporate early warning systems, GIS mapping, public awareness campaigns, and collaboration across government and private sectors before, during, and after disasters.
