Two brothers from Churu Farm in Glen View, Harare, Simon Madhongo (35) and Itai Madhongo, have been charged with multiple counts of rape after allegedly invading homes and assaulting teenagers. They appeared separately before Harare Magistrate Tildah Mazhande, facing a total of four counts of rape, and were remanded in custody until December 2, pending the completion of investigations.

The allegations against the brothers are disturbing. On November 17, Itai Madhongo allegedly entered a 16-year-old’s home, claiming to be a robber and holding her parents captive. He then took the teenager to a nearby paddock, where he raped her without protection. Just ten days prior, on November 7, Itai allegedly entered another 16-year-old’s home, forcing her out at gunpoint and raping her in a nearby field.

Simon Madhongo’s alleged crimes are equally shocking. He allegedly entered a 14-year-old’s home, taking her from her bedroom and raping her outside. Additionally, Simon allegedly raped another victim at gunpoint in her bedroom.

The police indicate that additional charges may be filed, as some complainants are currently writing Ordinary Level examinations and cannot participate in an identification parade.

The case against the Madhongo brothers serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing sexual violence and ensuring justice for victims. It also underscores the need for community-led initiatives to prevent such crimes and support those affected.

As the investigation continues, the community remains on high alert, seeking reassurance that measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. The remand of the Madhongo brothers until December 2 marks a crucial step towards justice, but the road to healing and reconciliation will be long for the victims and their families .
