The Minister of Primary and SeclEducation, Honourable Torerayi Moyo, lost his father Sekuru Patron Ngidi, who was 93 years old.

In his tribute, Minister Moyo stated that today is the day to celebrate the life well lived, the life of a hero, a father, and indeed a wonderful man.

Patron Ngidi was a remarkable man who dedicated his life to providing for his family and giving them the best possible education.

Sekuru Ngidi swarmed in pools of experiences, which took him to working at Consolidated Textiles in Bulawayo during the 1950s and 60s, and the challenges he faced as a black worker in a predominantly white-managed workplace made him a resolute fighter in his own right.

He showed his fighting spirit by beating up a white supervisor, especially a white person, which was indeed a taboo and a bold move, considering the racial tensions and power dynamics at play during that time.

His father’s decision to relocate to Gokwe North and become a peasant farmer shows his resilience and determination to provide for his family, even in the face of adversity.

Amazingly, he managed to educate all 7 of his children, despite the challenges he faced.

Patron Ngidi was born in August 1932 in Chivi, Masvingo.

He worked for Consolidated Textiles in Byo between 1957 and 1968.

He was dismissed from work after beating his supervisor in 1968.

He became a peasant farmer who worked tirelessly for his family.

He grew cotton, maize, groundnuts, and sunflowers.

He will be remembered for his hard work and total commitment to serving his family.

May his soul indeed rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy live on through the values he instilled in his family and community.
