In a bold move to improve road safety and increase law enforcement visibility during the festive season, the Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba, unveiled three new rebranded vehicles for the recently launched National Highway Patrol Unit.

This latest addition brings the total number of patrol vehicles to nine. It shows a strong commitment to reducing road accidents and deterring crime on Zimbabwe’s highways.

The new vehicles, marked with the unit’s unique branding, are part of a wider strategy to improve the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s (ZRP) ability to respond quickly to traffic violations, enforce road rules, and provide fast assistance in emergencies.

The Commissioner-General stressed that this is just the start, with more vehicles expected to join the fleet in the coming weeks.

“The public should know that more National Highway vehicles are coming,” said Commissioner-General Mutamba. “Let’s work together to promote road safety, reduce accidents, and prevent crime, especially during this busy festive season.”

The National Highway Patrol Unit, launched earlier this year, is a special branch of the ZRP responsible for maintaining order and safety on the country’s main roads.

With the holiday season typically marked by increased travel and heavy road use, the unit’s larger presence is expected to act as both a deterrent and a quick response team.

Motorists and commuters have welcomed the initiative, stating that a visible police presence can help encourage discipline among drivers and potentially save lives.

As the nation prepares for the holidays, authorities are urging all road users to be cautious, follow traffic laws, and cooperate with law enforcement.

The expanded patrol fleet not only represents modernization within the police force but also serves as a timely measure aimed at protecting lives during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.
