In 2024, the NPAZ received 314 dockets from ZACC. The press release clarified that while all dockets are thoroughly reviewed, not all are immediately ready for trial. The NPAZ stressed its commitment to thoroughness, explaining that it prioritizes presenting complete and well-evidenced cases in court.“NPAZ prioritizes thoroughness in its processes and does not rush to set down matters for trial that are incomplete or lack sufficient evidence,” the statement read. The authority highlighted its collaborative work with investigative agencies, providing guidance and support to ensure successful prosecutions. It also clarified the distinction between completed dockets and matters still under investigation, such as requests for remand (Form 242), which may explain discrepancies in figures reported by investigative agencies.Additionally, NPAZ underscored the crucial link between successful prosecutions and the quality of investigations. It reiterated its constitutional prerogative to initiate criminal proceedings and its dedication to presenting only complete and ready matters in court, adhering to high standards and constitutional responsibilities. The authority also expressed its commitment to fostering productive partnerships with supportive government agencies to strengthen the justice system.“Our constitutional prerogative allows us to determine the course of criminal proceedings, and we are dedicated to fostering productive partnerships with government agencies to ensure a robust justice system,” the NPAZ stated.The press release concluded with the NPAZ reiterating its resolve to uphold justice, ensure fairness, and build public trust in the legal system.
