NPAZ Sets Sights on Prosecutorial Excellence for 2025

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has unveiled its strategic focus for 2025, emphasizing “Promoting prosecutorial excellence and efficacy.” This ambitious theme, announced by Prosecutor General Hon. Loyce Matanda-Moyo, builds upon the groundwork laid in 2024, aiming to further solidify public trust in the justice system.

Addressing senior members of the NPAZ, Hon. Matanda-Moyo articulated the importance of aligning the authority’s goals with the judiciary’s overarching vision of “Building Public Confidence in the Judiciary through Multi-Stakeholder Participation.” She underscored the NPAZ’s commitment to ensuring justice is served, protecting vulnerable populations, and fostering a trustworthy legal framework.

“Our focus for 2025 is to not only maintain, but elevate the standards of our prosecutorial services,” stated Hon. Matanda-Moyo. “We are committed to delivering justice that is both timely and effective, and to continuously enhancing the integrity of our processes.”

The year’s strategic objectives are centered around five key areas:
* Professionalism: Upholding the highest ethical standards and conduct.
* Collaboration (3Cs): Strengthening communication, cooperation, and collaboration with all stakeholders.
* Effective Case Management: Streamlining processes for efficient and timely case resolution.
* Victim-Centered Approaches: Prioritizing the needs and rights of victims throughout the justice process.
* Continuous Training and Quality Decision-Making: Investing in ongoing professional development and ensuring sound legal judgment.

Hon. Matanda-Moyo acknowledged the crucial roles played by the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission in facilitating an effective justice delivery system. She reiterated the NPAZ’s dedication to upholding justice, integrity, and service, aligning with the national vision of achieving a just and peaceful society by 2030.

The NPAZ, established under the Constitution of Zimbabwe, is responsible for instituting and conducting criminal proceedings on behalf of the state. The authority’s renewed focus on excellence and efficacy signals its determination to strengthen the rule of law and maintain public confidence in the justice system.

The NPAZ also celebrated a decade of combating crime and corruption, marking a milestone in the nations pursuit of justice.
