By Dr Masimba Mavaza Seventh-day Adventists have a formal process for disciplining members who violate church doctrine or standards. There has been an unsigned petition flying around and in social media petitioning the Seventh Day Adventist Church to disfellowship elder Kudakwashe Tagwirei. The petition will not have been responded to if it was not that it will cause confusion if it is not dealt with. It is quite surprising that many people who claim to be adventists are targeting elder Tagwirei accusing him of being active into politics. The irony of these holier than thou people is that they only target Adventists who are aligned to ZANU PF and celebrate those aligned to the opposition. Firstly the same complainers celebrate the President of Zambia who is an Adventist and see nothing wrong by him being an Adventist. They celebrate President Traore who is an Asventist but turn their diabolic intentions against elder Tagwirei. Zimbabwe has a lot of Adventists who are in politics both sides but the noise makers go after only those who are aligned to ZANU PF. The opposition MDC, CCC and many opposition parties have Adventists in top positions. The lawyer for Chamisa Advocate Thabani Mpofu is an Adventist but no one finds anything wrong. Adventism and politics of Zimbabwe has always had a relationship. We have had cde Cyril Ndebele who was an Adventist. The bold and brave cde Geza is himself an Adventist so is cde Ziyambi Ziyambi. Every Zimbabwean belongs to one church or another. Should they quit politics. Politics and religion is one thing. In every one’s life there is politics at play and targeting one person because he is ZANU PF is politics in itself. Those claiming to be very close to God attacking Kuda Tagwirei are hypocrites. They actually are members of the opposition who use Adventism to attack ZANU PF. However Adventists are not switched into action by a petition. Adventists have a process they use when disciplining its members. Disfellowshipping in the Adventist church refers to the formal process of removing a member from church membership due to serious doctrinal or moral issues. It is a decision which is reached by the church and not by petitioners. A person is disfellowshipped forDoctrinal Deviation*: Members who reject fundamental Adventist doctrines or promote teachings contrary to the church’s beliefs may face disfellowshipping. The first step is to engage them and try to find them before any action. If there is any Moral Failure by a member the church may discipline the brother for such failures. Serious moral failures, such as adultery, immorality, or other actions deemed inconsistent with Christian values, can lead to disfellowshipping. This is done after a thorough investigation. If a member of the church engage in Unrepentant Behavior he will be surrendered to the devil through disfellowship. Members who refuse to repent and change their behavior despite warnings and counseling will be disfellowshipped. The Seventh Day Adventist church is a very organised church and when they are disciplining people it follows a well documented process. Investigation and Counseling*: Church leaders investigate allegations and provide counseling and warnings to the member. Then the issue is then sent to the Church Board who will make a Decision. The church board or leadership team typically makes the decision to disfellowship a member. This decision is not final. The church member in question will be formally notified of the decision. Then the church board will then present the decision to the church. The church will then give a final decision. When the church votes on the mater the member may Lose his church Membership. Disfellowshipped members lose their membership privileges and may not participate in church activities. Disfellowshipping can lead to social isolation from fellow church members.Disfellowshipping is typically considered a last resort, and church leaders aim to restore members whenever possible. It’s worth noting that church discipline procedures may vary depending on the local church and its leadership. Seventh-day Adventists are generally discouraged from engaging in partisan politics, but the church doesn’t entirely prohibit political involvement. The church emphasizes the importance of remaining neutral and not aligning with specific political parties. However it does not make it a rule. This then means that the petition making rounds is just a loud sounding nothing. There is no basis for petitioning the church to discipline Tagwirei and any calls for his discipline is satanic and totally diabolic. Those calling for his discipline while praising Thabani Mpofu are hypocrites. There is a serious misconception that only joining or supporting ZANUPF is called politics while supporting any other political party is not politics.
