Masvingo – Today, the Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) will reach a significant milestone as President Emmerson Mnangagwa presides over its 18th graduation ceremony. Over 4,400 students are expected to graduate, marking a testament to GZU’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence.

The highly anticipated ceremony will take place at the university’s main campus, nestled near the historic Masvingo Teachers’ College. As the students prepare to receive their hard-earned degrees, the atmosphere is electric with excitement and anticipation.

For the graduating class, today represents the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance, and hard work. GZU’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Rungano Zvobgo, expressed his pride in the graduates, stating, “Today, we celebrate not only the academic achievements of our students but also their growth into capable, innovative, and responsible individuals.”

Initially, President Mnangagwa was scheduled to commission the re-opened Mashava University Teaching Hospital alongside the graduation ceremony. Although the commissioning has been postponed to a later date, the teaching hospital’s reopening promises to revolutionize healthcare in the region.

The Mashava University Teaching Hospital will provide quality medical services, enhance training for healthcare professionals, and foster groundbreaking research. This development underscores GZU’s commitment to improving the lives of Zimbabweans.

GZU’s focus on research and innovation has yielded impressive results. The university has registered nine trademarks with the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation and developed products such as chilli sauce, wezhira wine, and herbal mahewu.

These initiatives demonstrate GZU’s commitment to Education 5.0, creating employment opportunities, providing affordable products, and improving community nutrition. As the graduates embark on their next journey, they are equipped to make meaningful contributions to Zimbabwe’s growth and development.
