By Staff Reporter HARARE – Self-proclaimed prophet Walter Magaya, faced scrutiny in the ZIFA presidency run due to his education and unresolved legal issues, including a previous conviction which raised questions about his eligibility. His ambitions for a football presidency were dealt a severe blow leading him to appeal against the Normalisation Committee’s decision, following which he submitted fraudulent academic qualifications in an attempt to get back in the race – for the love of the game. The University of South Africa (Unisa) has however publicly refuted Magaya’s assertions of being a graduate and alumnus of the institution, further denying that they ever conferred an honorary doctorate upon him.Unisa issued a press statement today, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, explicitly stating that their records show no registration or graduation for Magaya. “Any certificate/s he produces which he claims to be from Unisa is/are therefore fraudulent,” the statement emphasized. The university’s response came after inquiries from international (local) media outlets regarding Magaya’s credentials. The revelation has sparked widespread condemnation and raised serious questions about Magaya’s integrity, particularly in light of his pursuit of a prominent position in football leadership. Many are asking why a figure claiming divine guidance would resort to such blatant misrepresentation.Critics are now asking: Why would a self-proclaimed “prophet” resort to deception in pursuit of power? The community is left to ponder the spiritual implications of such a choice. Did the spirit not whisper to him the potential consequences of his actions? The fallout from this controversy includes not only public humiliation but also a significant loss of integrity. Many are questioning the authenticity of his prophetic gifts and the validity of his contributions to society. As the media continues to buzz with speculation and outrage, one thing remains clear: the repercussions of Magaya’s actions extend far beyond his personal ambitions. They raise broader questions about trust, accountability, and the lengths to which individuals will go to achieve power and influence. The scandal further casts a dark shadow over Magaya’s public image which is already tainted. The timing couldn’t be worse for his football ambitions, with many now doubting his integrity and transparency had he been given such a crucial role. The public is left wondering what other fabrications might exist in his narrative. Magaya once claimed he had found a herbal cure for HIV and Aids – Aguma. And at one time carried two black satchels full of sins of the people to Israel among other things. The Unisa statement further indicated that they are considering legal action against Magaya for the reputational damage caused by his false claims. This new layer of complexity to the already controversial figure’s career, raising profound ethical concerns. The complex issue serves as a cautionary tale about the value of honesty and the dangers of deceit. As Unisa takes steps to protect its brand and uphold its values, the public watches closely, eager to see how Magaya will navigate the storm he has created. Will he acknowledge his missteps and seek redemption, or will he continue down this perilous path of deception? Only time will tell.
