By Ilyana Sithole In the storm called life, most times we find ourselves being pulled by an unstoppable tide that yearns for strength and resilience. The demands at work, in family, and from personal expectations may build up to an overwhelming sense of urgency that pushes us to the limits. We are warriors in our lives, fighting each new day as if the mentality must always be one of strength. Yet, amidst this intensity, we usually overlook a vital truth: it is not only acceptable but necessary to pause, reflect, and recharge. The pressures of modern living can make us feel that rest is a luxury we cannot afford. We may believe that taking a break signifies weakness or laziness. But the Scriptures remind us that our worth is not derived from ceaseless activity. We are called to be stewards of our well-being, and that means knowing when to step back. The Bible reminds through it all that “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14). This verse catches in rather simple words a profound insight based on trusting God’s mighty acts, not some kind of self-reliance.In our conquests, spiritual renewal many a time is left lagging behind. Jesus Himself modeled it: through His ministry, He would go to isolated areas to pray and restore, reinforcing that man must have communion with God. The times of isolation were not weaknesses but vital pieces of His strength and mission. Even as He sought refuge in the silence, so, too, we must in the busyness take the time to reflect and pray.By allowing ourselves to stop, we allow God to speak into our lives. It is in these quiet times that we are able to hear His voice, which guides us with wisdom and reassurance. By casting our cares upon Him, we can release the pressure we place on ourselves to have all the answers. This is not an act of defeat, but it is a declaration of my humanness and a declaration to God’s sovereignty.Weekly Affirmations1. I am allowed to rest and recharge; it is okay to be a little less productive.2. In the moments of weakness, let me lean into those further for growth and introspection.3. The Lord is my defense, and unto Him, I cast my care.4. I am strong in repose; clear in prayer.5. I am worthy to be loved and supported, and if at any time either is needed, I ask for it.6. I grant myself permission for whatever feeling comes up into my feelings and to step aside when necessary-not feeling guilty.7. The grace of God is upon me; therefore, I can overcome my challenges.May these affirmations be a comforting friend as we make our way through the week, reminding us that we indeed are never alone in any of life’s battles because our faith is able to see us through anything coming upon us. As you withdraw for a time into replenishment while God is restoring your spirit, you can once more emerge into battle with hope renewed and strength revived.Prayer:Dear Heavenly Father,We come to you today worn out and weary from this fight, from being strong. We realize we can’t do it all in our own strength and acknowledge a need for your guiding and strengthening.Help us not to forget it’s okay to stop and take rest. Give us the courage to be still, to trust that You fight for us.We thank You, O Lord, for having been our refuge and stronghold, a very present help in time of need. We praise Your love and presence now in our lives. At all times, may our hearts remember we are not alone and You are with us.In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.May this be the message that follows us, impressing upon us the sense of our self-worth, not because of the inflexible robustness of our person but to rest in God’s arms.
