In a heartbreaking incident early this morning, seven individuals perished in a crash on the Harare-Bulawayo Road. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) verified that the event took place around 3:30 am close to the 330-kilometer mark, involving an Inter Africa bus and an immobile truck.

Unfortunately, seven victims were declared dead at the scene of the crash. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Gweru hospital morgue. As reported by the ZRP, on X, the bus crashed into the rear of the stationary truck, causing the deaths. Information about the count of injured individuals is still not clear, with the injured undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

Following the accident, the ZRP released a stern caution to the community, especially for those living close to highways. The ZRP highlighted that exploiting road accidents to steal items from vehicles is a grave criminal act. This entails taking items from freight trucks or associated vehicles and moving them to private homes for personal use, selling, or any other reason.

In addition, the ZRP highlighted the significance of road safety and has committed to further investigate the details regarding this tragic accident. They have called on the public to stay alert on the roads, especially at night, to avoid such tragedies in the future.

The ZRP are still collecting information regarding the events that led to the incident and will share updates as additional details emerge. They also urge the public to assist law enforcement to maintain safety on the roads.
