By Ilyana Sithole The Honourable Minister for Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Hon. (Sen.) Monica Mutsvangwa, has unveiled a comprehensive strategic plan to empower women, communities, and Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) at the Annual Strategic Plan Review Workshop held at the Holiday Inn in Bulawayo. The plan, aligned with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and Vision 2030, focuses on capacity building, gender equality, and economic growth.This initiative aims to promote gender equality and equity, implement programs to end child marriages, and enhance Gender-Based Violence Response and Mitigation. The minister emphasized the importance of capacitating women, communities, and MSMEs through funding, market development, trade promotion, business management, and technical skills training. Minister Mutsvangwa emphasized the importance of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which serves as a guiding framework for the government’s initiatives from 2021 to 2025. She underlined the ministry’s dedication to three core programs: Policy and Administration, Women Empowerment and Gender Mainstreaming, and Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Cooperative Development.“As we reflect on our achievements and challenges, we must remain focused on the transition to NDS2, which aims for an empowered and prosperous society by 2030,” said Mutsvangwa. She urged participants to adopt a collaborative approach, drawing inspiration from the upcoming ZANU PF Annual People’s Conference to align their efforts with national priorities.The Minister acknowledged significant milestones achieved over the past year, including the launch of the Inaugural High-Level Women in Leadership Summit and the commissioning of various initiatives such as the Maker-Space Innovation in Bulawayo and the Chiredzi SMEs Centre. These achievements reflect the ministry’s commitment to resilience and determination in advancing gender equity and economic growth.To foster SME growth, the minister outlined plans to develop workspaces for women and MSMEs, operationalize the MSME Advisory Council, and continuously capitalize the Women Micro-Finance Bank and SMEDCO. These measures will improve access to finance, markets, and technology for SMEs, enhance business management and technical skills training, and enable SMEs to contribute significantly to Zimbabwe’s economic growth and job creation.Hon. Mutsvangwa also highlighted the need to finalize the Community Development Policy, review the Cooperatives Societies Act, strengthen food security, improve social services nationwide, and establish women empowerment clubs. These initiatives aim to promote community development, improve livelihoods, and enhance social cohesion.She stressed the need for devolution and decentralization, ensuring responsiveness to individual needs at household, village, ward, district, and provincial levels.Hon. (Sen.) Monica Mutsvangwa’s strategic vision for women, communities, and SMEs marks a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s development journey. By prioritizing empowerment, equality, and economic growth, Zimbabwe is poised to achieve its national vision of an “Empowered and Prosperous Upper-Middle Income Society by 2030.”Looking ahead, Minister Mutsvangwa outlined the ministry’s key policy priorities for 2025, focusing on:– Empowering Women and MSMEs: Through funding, market development, and business management training.– Promoting Gender Equality: Implementing programs to end child marriages and enhance responses to gender-based violence.– Strengthening Governance: Ensuring transparency, accountability, and good corporate governance across all initiatives.Mutsvangwa encouraged attendees to engage in open dialogues and innovative thinking, emphasizing that the workshop should not be “business as usual.” “We are here to craft a roadmap for impactful results that will benefit all Zimbabweans,” she stated.The Minister concluded by expressing her confidence in the collective capacity of the attendees to drive positive change and urged everyone to work with integrity and dedication to create a sustainable and inclusive future.The minister’s comprehensive plan demonstrates Zimbabwe’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), African Union’s Agenda 2063, SADC Regional Integration, National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), and Vision 2030.As Zimbabwe embarks on this transformative journey, the minister’s leadership and vision will play a pivotal role in shaping a brighter future for all Zimbabweans.The Strategic Plan Review Workshop which commenced today, September 30 and will end October 4, 2024, stands as a pivotal moment for the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, setting the stage for transformative initiatives in the coming year.
