By Staff Reporter Yesterday morning, Hon. Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira had his first meeting with the African Group of Ambassadors, which marked an important milestone in our collective journey towards realizing Agenda 2063 of the African Union. As discussions ensued, one quickly realized this was more than a gathering of diplomats but rather a clarion call for unity and advancement across our great continent. The message from Prof. Murwira was unmistakable: Africa needs to move with increased pace on its economic collaboration. In this cold world, which has been made to compete in a no-holds-barred manner for resources and influence, there is a need to cooperate in trade, education, science, technology, tourism, mining, and agriculture, something so timely and necessary. It is only by standing united that indeed we will resolve such problems as economic stagnation, political turmoil, or even the varnished specter of neocolonialism. This call to collaboration by Prof. Murwira could not have come at a better time than now, when the global geopolitical environment is at this level. The African continent is rich in resources and talents, but often, we find ourselves fragmented and in competition rather than in cooperation. This meeting was about changing that narrative. Deeper bilateral relationships can unlock our economies’ potential and foster sustainable development pathways for all Africans.Similarly, the African Group of Ambassadors, through H.E. James Musoni, praised these contributions by Zimbabwe toward Agenda 2063. That alone is proof of the important role each member state plays in this collective vision. But applause must be put into action. The dream of an inclusive and sustainable Africa cannot be realized without active engagement by every nation in collaboration with others. In his remarks, Prof. Murwira also touched upon the need to preserve our unity against neocolonial intrigues. This is probably the most critical challenge that we are facing. Before us stands menacingly the specter of neocolonialism, which appears determined to undermine our independence and self-determination wrestled from the colonial masters at such great cost. It is necessary that we stay alert and united in our struggles to resist external pressures aimed at exploiting our resources and dividing our nations.Unity is not about uniformity, but respect for our diverse cultures, languages, and histories combined with common purpose. Pan-African drive for freedom and self-determination is thus not a slogan but essential for survival and prosperity in an increasingly convoluted world. As we go into the future, this meeting led by Prof. Murwira gives us hope for transformation. It might be a thorny road, but with such leadership who believe in unity and working together, we shall surmount the challenges ahead. This vision of an Africa we want is not just some dream far into the horizon; it’s quite close and achievable with just concerted effort. The moment to act is now. The African Group of Ambassadors needs to capitalize on the momentum and turn the discussions into tangible initiatives in a way that ensures progress continues. In the words of Prof. Murwira, “Together, we can do this by building a resilient and self-sufficient continent.” This is a rallying call for all of us: governments, civil society, and citizens alike that the future in shaping a better Africa remains a collective responsibility. With this in mind, let us embark on this journey with much resolve and renewed purpose. A changed Africa is well within our grasp, and together, we can make it happen.
