By CPO Shumba, Security and Disaster Management Consultant (ZISO), Member of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Economic Development (ZILFD), African Christian Council International (ACCI), and the Affirmative Action Group (AAG). In service. As a Security and Disaster Management Consultant and a member of the African Christian Council International (ACCI), Zimbabwe Lawyers for Economic Development (ZILFD) and the Affirmative Action Group (AAG), I understand that the road to progress and success can often be challenging. Just as in the world of security, where we must constantly assess, plan, and adjust to protect what matters most, the same principles apply to our church work. It requires patience, diligence, and a commitment to getting things in order. We often hear the phrase, “Getting your ducks in a row.” This speaks to the need for careful planning and preparation, ensuring that everything is aligned and ready for success. Whether we are dealing with spiritual matters, administrative tasks, or the protection and well-being of our congregations, getting things in order is key to moving forward with confidence and purpose. It’s important to acknowledge that the process of getting things in order is not always easy. As members, we face numerous challenges, both seen and unseen, that can make progress feel slow or even stagnant. But it’s in these moments that our leadership truly shines. By embracing the process and remaining focused on the bigger picture, we position ourselves and our organisations for lasting success.Just as in security consulting, where every step, no matter how small, counts towards a safer and more secure environment, in the church, every effort we make toward organisation and alignment contributes to the spiritual and operational health of our congregations. It’s about building a foundation that can withstand challenges and support growth. One key message I want to share with all church leaders across Zimbabwe is this: Progress is progress, no matter how slow it may seem. The work we do requires patience and persistence. We are not just managing today’s tasks, we are laying the groundwork for future generations. Whether it’s through setting up effective administrative systems, ensuring the security and safety of our church properties, or providing spiritual guidance to our members, every step we take matters. As leaders, we often bear the weight of responsibility, but we must also remember that we are not alone. We are part of a larger community of faith, where collaboration and mutual support are essential. Lean on your fellow leaders, seek counsel when needed, and continue to trust in the process.Security may seem like a background issue, but it is an essential aspect of effective leadership. The physical and emotional safety of our church members is paramount. Just as we work to secure our churches from external threats, we must also ensure that our internal processes are secure and trustworthy.Getting things in order in this context means more than just locking doors and securing valuables, it means creating an environment where our congregations feel safe to worship, serve, and grow. It’s about safeguarding the spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of our members. This can only be achieved when we, as leaders, prioritise order, transparency, and diligence in all that we do.In our efforts to secure our places of worship, we are not alone. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), under the command of Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga, is working tirelessly to ensure that churches across the nation are safe havens where people can worship freely without fear. Their dedication to protecting our communities, including places of worship, deserves our recognition and gratitude. The ZRP has been instrumental in maintaining peace and order, responding to threats, and ensuring that those who seek to harm or disrupt our gatherings are held accountable. Their partnership with religious leaders demonstrates their commitment to safeguarding not only the physical security of our churches but also the spiritual well-being of our congregations. As leaders, we must continue to collaborate with the ZRP to reinforce our shared mission of creating safe and secure environments for worship. We must also acknowledge the vital role of our national leadership in fostering peace and security across Zimbabwe. His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has continuously supported efforts to ensure that Zimbabwe remains a land of peace and unity. His commitment to promoting harmony across the nation is felt in the Zimbabwean valleys and beyond, as he prioritises stability in every corner of our country.Under his leadership, the emphasis on peace has resonated strongly within our communities, allowing churches and places of worship to operate in an environment free from fear. As religious leaders, we align with this vision, striving to create sanctuaries where our members can focus on their spiritual growth without the distraction of insecurity. As a member of both the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Economic Development (ZILFD) and the Affirmative Action Group (AAG), I also recognise the importance of fostering economic and social progress alongside our spiritual duties. Churches are not just places of worship, they are also centres of community life and indigenisation, where economic empowerment and social justice must be promoted. Our leadership should extend beyond the pulpit to engage in the holistic development of our communities, ensuring that we contribute to the economic stability and progress of Zimbabwe as a whole.Through collaborative efforts with organisations like ZILFD, ACCI and AAG, we can ensure that our church members are not only spiritually nourished but also equipped to contribute to the economic and social development of our nation. This is part of our broader mission as church leaders, to uplift our communities in every aspect of their lives. As we continue on this journey of leadership, I encourage each of you to take pride in the steps you are taking to get your “ducks in a row.” Progress may not always come in the form of grand gestures, but in the steady, consistent efforts that build a strong foundation for the future.Remember, we are not just working for today, we are preparing for tomorrow. Every challenge we overcome, every system we put in place, and every relationship we strengthen is part of the legacy we leave behind. Let’s continue to move forward with confidence, knowing that we are making a difference, both now and for generations to come.I urge all church leaders across Zimbabwe to remain steadfast in their efforts. Embrace the process, trust in the progress, and continue to lead with integrity, vision, and compassion. Together, we can build a stronger, safer, and more secure future for our churches and our communities. With the continued support of our government, the hard work of the ZRP, and the unity of our church leaders, Zimbabwe will continue to stand as a beacon of peace and resilience.May God bless you all as you continue to serve with dedication and purpose.
