Harare regional magistrate Mr. Collet Ncube has convicted CCC administrator Jameson Timba and 34 others for participating in an unlawful gathering. The conviction stems from an incident on June 16, this year, where police received information about an unsanctioned gathering at Timba’s house, allegedly to plan unlawful demonstrations in Harare.

The events of that day unfolded rapidly, as police arrived at the scene to find a large, rowdy crowd gathered at Timba’s residence. The atmosphere quickly turned volatile, with the crowd becoming violent and throwing stones at a police vehicle, causing damage. Reinforcements were swiftly called in, and police were forced to use tear smoke to control the crowd and restore order.

In the aftermath of the chaos, 35 individuals were taken into custody, facing charges related to participating in an unlawful gathering. After a thorough investigation and a lengthy trial, the prosecution, led by Mr. Lancelot Mutsokoti, presented its case against the accused.

In a significant development, 28 of the accused were acquitted due to lack of sufficient evidence. However, Jameson Timba and 34 others were found guilty of participating in the unlawful gathering .

This conviction serves as a reminder that the rule of law must be respected, and that unlawful gatherings will not be tolerated. The authorities have demonstrated their commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring that those who break the law are held accountable.
