As we celebrate the 45th Zimbabwe Independence Day on April 18, 2025, it is not so much the anniversary of freedom but also a day when we commemorate our identity and our aspirations as a nation. This year’s theme, “Devolve and Develop Together towards #Vision2030,” is very close to our path.”. It calls upon us to join hands not just in embracing our history but also in deriving the power of togetherness to build a successful future of social justice and sustainable development.

Vision 2030 is Zimbabwe’s blue-print, which projects to rebase our economy as an upper-middle-income country by 2030. This bold blue-print enumerates key goals, each of them a move towards our nation’s identity and destiny. Central to this vision is the establishment of a stable macroeconomic platform. This is only possible through prudent fiscal management, lower inflation, and enhanced exchange rate stability—pillars that will yield investment and secure growth in the long term. It is our collective responsibility to make sure policies and programs stabilizing our economy so that all Zimbabweans have opportunity to thrive are sustained.

In addition, the heartbeat of any country is its people, and hence improving social services is the top of Vision 2030. Healthcare, education, and social services are not luxuries of the upper class; they are human rights, and every citizen is entitled to these. By investing in our human capital, we create a foundation for an educated workforce that will propel our country forward. Creating a society where all citizens can thrive is a highest form of patriotism.

Agricultural transformation is an aspiration on our agenda. Zimbabwe was once the “breadbasket of Africa,” and the time has come to reclaim this crucial sector. By encouraging sustainable agriculture and improving productivity, we can attain food security while making rural economies prosperous. A productive agricultural economy is not merely a matter of food security; it has the power to transform entire communities, building wealth and self-sufficiency.

Industrialization and adding value to our raw materials is yet another pillar in the foundation of Vision 2030. With these at the forefront of our minds, Zimbabwe can be a manufacturing economy that creates jobs and generates revenue for Zimbabweans. Promoting local production and consumption brings not only economic independence but national pride too. Buying from locals, eating locally, and investing in home activities enables us to regain our economic independence.

Inclusiveness and fair growth are key to our realization of national targets. We should strive for lower income disparities and lower rates of poverty so that all can access resources and opportunities for wealth. The vision challenges us to make a society where all Zimbabweans are able to take part and share in economic progress. It challenges us to deal with the imbalances that hinder us from advancing together.

Upgraded transportation systems, energy networks, and information technology are components of modernized infrastructure, which is integral in increasing connectivity and economic activity. Infrastructure investment is investment in the future—development of businesses to grow and communities to thrive. Better roads, reliable power, and availability of the internet are not luxuries; they are essentials that enhance quality of life and efficiency.

But even as we mark our independence and gaze out towards a vibrant future, we have to realize the problems that we are confronting. Political stability and the struggle against corruption are key to establishing an atmosphere that is investor-friendly and business-friendly. Also vital is the assurance that access to finance is delivered to business enterprises and individuals if we are to spur economic development. We need to ride the changing global economic currents with resiliency and flexibility.

In conclusion, on this year’s Independence Day, let us reaffirm ourselves to Vision 2030 with the virtues of patriotism. We are asked to devolve and develop in tandem to share responsibility for our country’s future. We all have a role to play in this quest—to foster stability, to empower individuals, to safeguard grassroots initiatives, and to come together during times of adversity. Together, let’s make our dreams a reality, and let Zimbabwe rise again as a shinning example of hope and prosperity for generations to come. Happy Independence Day, Zimbabwe!
