Transparency International Zimbabwe (TIZ) honours the brave individuals who step forward to expose corruption, abuse of power, and wrongdoing, often at great personal risk following the commemoration of the World Whistleblower Day today.

In a statement TIZ highlighted that Whistleblowers are vital to strengthening accountability, protecting public resources, and safeguarding the public’s right to know.

“Their courage directly supports TIZ’s vision of a Zimbabwe free from corruption and our mission to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability across all sectors.”

“However, Zimbabwe’s current legal environment leaves whistleblowers dangerously unprotected. The failure to fully implement or enforce robust whistleblower protection laws has deterred individuals from coming forward with information on corrupt practices.”

TIZ highlighhts that if the whistleblower and witness protection laws are not yet in place, it will remain a challenge to have cases of corruption reported unanimously and for whistleblowers to come forward.

However, Transparency International Zimbabwe stressed why there is an urgent need for a Stand-Alone Whistleblower Protection Law.

“● It encourages people to report corruption safely.
● It ensures protection before, during, and after reporting.
● It applies across all sectors, public, private, and civil society
● It sets up clear, independent reporting channels
● It aligns Zimbabwe with its international obligations
● It strengthens the country’s fight against corruption by breaking the culture of silence.”
