Honourable July G Moyo, the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, announced the successful resolution of the impasse between the Women’s University in Africa (WUA) and the Council of Social Workers in Zimbabwe, yesterday.

The dispute arose from some gaps in WUA’s Social Work Training Program that the Council had raised. After constructive dialogue between the Council, ZIMCHE, and WUA, the university has since developed and implemented a comprehensive plan to address the identified shortcomings.

“We commend WUA for being pro-active with regards to concerns raised both by the Council and ZIMCHE,” said Minister Moyo. “This resolution underscores our collective commitment to fostering a robust social work profession, “equipped to effectively serve the needs of our communities, in alignment with the NDS1 on labour and social protection, which aims to ensure decent work conditions and social protection for all.”

The resolution paved the way for the Council of Social Workers to resume its oversight of WUA’s Social Work Training programs. This is a very important collaboration that will ensure the quality and relevance of social work education in Zimbabwe, which is in tandem with the National Development Strategy 1 on decent work and social protection for all.

Minister Moyo expressed her appreciation to the parties for their co-operation and dedication in the resolution process. “This renewed partnership will not only enhance the quality of education and professional practice in social work but will also contribute positively to our society as a whole,” he said.
