In a significant move towards achieving food security and economic growth, President Mnangagwa has emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in the distribution of agricultural inputs for the 2024-2025 cropping season.

Speaking at the launch of the Pfumvudza/Intwasa program in Gwebu Village, Buhera District, President Mnangagwa stressed that inputs must reach intended farmers, with zero tolerance for abuse. This bold step aims to empower farmers and ensure household food security amid climate change.

The Pfumvudza/Intwasa program has been a resounding success since its inception in the 2020-2021 season. By promoting smart agriculture practices, it has improved food availability and transformed the lives of countless Zimbabweans.

President Mnangagwa’s vision for Zimbabwe’s future is built on self-sufficiency and resilience. He urged farmers to produce enough food for the nation and replenish grain reserves, a critical step towards achieving food security.

To achieve this ambitious goal, irrigation development will be accelerated, targeting 350,000 hectares for cereals production. This strategic investment will unlock Zimbabwe’s agricultural potential and cement its position as a regional breadbasket.

The launch of the Pfumvudza/Intwasa program also included the commissioning of School Business Units, Village Business Units, and a Presidential Community Fish Pond. These innovative initiatives promote self-sufficiency, food security, and community development.

President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy. The agricultural sector plays a vital role in this vision, and the President’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and community development has set the stage for a brighter future.

Chief Gwebu’s leadership in the Pfumvudza/Intwasa program was commended by President Mnangagwa, who encouraged other Chiefs to follow suit. This grassroots approach ensures that development is driven by local communities.
