Zimbabwe and UAE Mark Diplomatic Milestone with Presentation of Credentials

Abu Dhabi – Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates have marked a significant diplomatic milestone with the presentation of credentials by Ambassador Isaac A. Moyo to His Excellency Omar Obaid Alshamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

The ceremony, conducted in a warm and respectful atmosphere, symbolises the deepening of bilateral relations between the two nations and reaffirms their commitment to cooperation, dialogue, and partnership. This move aligns with President Dr ED Mnangagwa’s call for engagement with nations sharing fraternities with Zimbabwe.

The presentation of credentials formally empowers Ambassador Moyo to represent Zimbabwe’s interests, values, and aspirations at the highest diplomatic level. This comes as Zimbabwe intensifies its engagement with strategic partners across the Middle East, Asia, and the Global South, focusing on economic diplomacy, investment promotion, and people-to-people cooperation.

During the engagement, His Excellency Omar Obaid Alshamsi welcomed Ambassador Moyo and conveyed the UAE’s appreciation of its growing relationship with African nations. He reiterated the UAE’s desire to expand cooperation with Zimbabwe in key areas, including trade, energy, infrastructure development, tourism, agriculture, and climate resilience.

Ambassador Moyo expressed gratitude for the warm reception and conveyed greetings from the president and people of Zimbabwe. He reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to strengthening ties with the UAE, noting shared values of sustainable development, mutual respect, and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.

The UAE has emerged as a key partner for Africa, investing billions in sectors such as renewable energy, logistics, mining, aviation, and agribusiness. Zimbabwe, with its natural resources and strategic location, is an attractive investment destination. Ambassador Moyo highlighted opportunities for Emirati investors and tourists, stressing Zimbabwe’s openness to business.

The engagement reflected Zimbabwe’s foreign policy transformation, prioritising economic diplomacy, market expansion, and foreign direct investment. The UAE offers a strategic gateway for Zimbabwean goods and services into the Middle East, Asia, and beyond.

Discussions also touched on cultural exchange, people-to-people relations, climate change, and sustainable development. Both nations face climate-related challenges and share interests in renewable energy, water management, and climate-smart technologies.

The presentation of credentials consolidates progress in Zimbabwe-UAE relations, signalling renewed momentum in diplomatic ties. Ambassador Moyo’s experience and appointment reflect Zimbabwe’s intent to deploy seasoned diplomats to strategic postings.

As the ceremony concluded, both sides expressed optimism about the future of Zimbabwe-UAE relations, grounded in trust, opportunity, and shared ambition. This partnership holds promise for economic growth, job creation, and enhanced global integration.
