By Regina PasipanodyaToday, the Minister of ICT, Postal & Courier Services, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera launched the National Digital Ambassadors Program which seeks to empower 1.5 million Zimbabweans with essential digital skills.The event which was attended by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and other dignitaries marked a significant step towards achieving a digitally inclusive society.The Digital Ambassadors Program will allow training in digital marketing, e-commerce, basic cybersecurity, and ICT literacy. In a statement, Hon. Minister Mavetera said the program promotes Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) which supports digitalisation as a key pillar for sustainable growth. “To leverage this potential, it’s crucial to equip Zimbabweans with essential digital skills, enabling them to interact, innovate, and thrive in the digital landscape. By doing so, we are building a technologically proficient society capable of maximising digital innovations,” said Hon MaveteraThrough the National Digital Ambassadors Program, the trainees will learn digital marketing, basic cybersecurity, e-commerce, and ICT literacy and they will share their knowledge in their communities, ensuring everyone benefits from the digital revolution.Hon. Mavetera also highlighted that POTRAZ has been training citizens in basic digital literacy, and with the addition of the DiGi truck, we can expand our reach to underserved communities. With over 200 Community Information Centres established, this mobile unit will be a game changer. Huawei Technologies also donated a Mobile Digital Truck (DIGITRUCK), which will be used to bring digital skills training to marginalized communities.The truck has a 10-kilowatt solar power system, and instructor, and can accommodate about twenty students with access to a laptop along with a 65-inch smart screen for the training.The government of Zimbabwe has been instrumental with a vision to modernise the economy and infrastructure by harnessing technology for growth and enhanced service delivery.
