Zimbabwe has embarked on the road to transform its healthcare system as it readies to host a Health Technology Symposium on the 29th of March this year .

The Symposium, which shows the country’s commitment to embracing and moving in tandem with technological advancement, wil bring together healthcare professionals ,researchers, policymakers and innovators to explore the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) ,Machine Learning (ML) ,Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) into the country’s tottering healthcare system.

In a press statement on Wednesday, the symposium’s coordinator, who is also the Operations Manager for Matamba Film Labs Trust for Women ,Ms Varaidzo Murapa said the groundbreaking move which is being supported by the United States of America (US) Embassy in Zimbabwe and other local partners purpot to inspire knowledge exchange, collaboration and skills development in as far much as equipping health professionals is concerned.

” The symposium aims to cultivate knowledge exchange, collaboration and skill development, thereby providing an essential platform for dialogue, advocacy and engagement within the medical community,” read the statement.

According to the statement, the symposium is a significant stride towards harnessing the formidable power of new technology to improve overall healthcare delivery in Zimbabwe.

” Attendees can expect a dynamic and interactive programme featuring keynote presentations on insights from leading healthcare and technology experts, engaging conversations between medical professionals, researchers, policymakers and technology developers .”

There will also be demonstrations of AI ,ML ,VR and AR applications as well as a conversation with one of the most sought-after healthcare practitioner in digital health globally Dr Mohamed Aburawi as part of the symposium’s fireside chat .

” The future of healthcare is digital, data -driven ,and patient-centered .As an organisation, we believe collaboration is key to unlocking the full potential of healthcare technology,” said Ms Murapa .

She was optimistic about the success of the event as bringing a new dawn Zimbabwe’s healthcare landscape.

” The event will spark new ideas ,foster partnerships ,and accelerate innovation for a healthier Zimbabwe,” she added.

The Zimbabwe Digital Health Society (ZDHS) and the Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZMA) are among the organisations partnering wiht Matamba to host the symposium.

The ZDHS is an organisation dedicated to advocating digital health technologies with a mission to harness the power of technology to improve overall public health outcome and patient engagement.

While Matamba Film Trust is dedicated to empowering filmmakers and digital storytellers and offers training in new media skills such as Animation ,VR ,storytelling and gaming among others.

With this setup, the team is poised to usher in a lasting impact on the country’s healthcare sector.
