By James Nyandowe In a powerful recognition of International Women’s Day , a talented group of female artists has collaborated on a stirring anthem, “Forward Together” ,which aired on 8 March 2025.The song ,produced by renowned music producer, Dankillah,real name Danny Nyamushamba of Studio Moto , was a testament to the strength and resilience of women iin the music industry. “Forward Together” is a collaborative effort between Millz Million,Bhanshee, Danai Clay, Badgyal Veetee, and Pekayna who joined to bring their unique style and voice to amplify the voices and stories of women who have been marginalised .The song’s message of unity, empowerment, and collective progress resonated deeply with the spirit of the day as women globally converged in their different spheres to commemorate International Women’s Day which is celebrated annually on the 8th of March. The artists believed that the song will inspire listeners to reflect on the importance of gender equality and the role they can play in promoting it whilst providing a sense of comfort, solidarity, and motivation to women and girls around the world who are working to create positive change in their communities.In an interview, Miledis Marufu ( 21) ,stage name “Millz Million ” said the song is a symbol of unity , empowerment and collective progress. “To me, it symbolizes the strength and resilience of women coming together to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.” The song’s message deeply resonates with my personal experiences as I have witnessed first hand the impact of women supporting and lifting each other .Growing up ,I saw my mother team up with other women in the community to drive positive change and I believe the same spirit of collaboration and solidarity is captured in “Forward Together ” ,” said Milz Million. Meanwhile Danai “Clay” Ngorima ( 28) who added another voice on the track echoes this sentiment saying “Forward together means that as women, we are helping each other and working together in building a powerful movement.”” It is a message of walking this journey together as one without leaving anyone behind ,” added Clay .Badgyal Veetee , born Vivian Takaziva (27) added that the song is a celebration of women’s empowerment. “It really contributes much because we were singing about empowering women, showing them we can do it no matter the situation,” she said.The artists drew inspiration from their personal experiences and struggles. Millz Million recalls her favorite moment from the recording process: “My favorite moment was when all the artists accepted to be part of the song… Seeing so many talented women on one song united by a shared passion for empowering others, was truly unforgettable.”” It contributes to the women’s day because we are speaking to women telling them to be bold, being fearless and being committed to creating positive change and educating each one of us to march forward together and breaking down barriers rising above the noise , above doubts and above the limitations,” said Paid ” Pekayna ” Zanamwe (22).The only masculine behind the project ,Dankillah, the Studio Moto producer has a reputation for uplifting upcoming artists. Apart from recording with Studio Moto, he has his own record label, Dankillah Records, ” Home of Talent Realization ” which had been instrumental in promoting new talent in Zimbabwe including artists like Van Choga , London Boi and Tatman. “My expertise in production of contextual social commentary music inspired me to do a women’s month project in March 2025, so it was a good idea to engage some of the dopest female rappers in Zimbabwe and do an EP that represents the Women’s History Month, including the International Women’s Day .” ” Music has always been a powerful tool to promote women empowerment and social change because it transcends language, culture, and social barriers , providing a platform for women to express their stories, struggles, and triumphs in ways that inspire others ,” he said .“Forward Together” is part of a larger EP project which is also a celebration of women’s empowerment and a call to action for gender equality set to be released later this month. “I hope that “Forward Together” will galvanize a new wave of activism, advocacy, and community building that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come especially in the African context,” Tatiana ” Bhanshee ” Natalie Kondo (25) said .The EP, also titled “Forward Together”, will feature six tracks, each showcasing the unique talents of the collaborating artists.
